LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State cross country teams' final preparations for the Western Athletic Conference Championships take place in Riverside, Calif., this weekend.

The Aggies are set to compete in the Highlander Invitational, hosted by UC Riverside, Saturday, Oct. 19. The men's 8k begins at 9 a.m., and the women's 6k gets going at 9:40 a.m.

NM State is coming off of a successful showing at the Capitol Cross Challenge in Sacramento, Calif., where both the men's and women's programs finished in the top 15. The women's squad finished ninth in the 6k, while the men placed 12th in the 8k.

Junior Michael Kirwa and senior Iley Bruce each grabbed top-25 finishes in the men's 8k, placing 15th (24:29.0) and 19th (24:33.8) overall, respectively. On the women' side, sophomore Richelle Sandin was the top Aggie finisher, coming in at 27th overall (21:20.1).

Saturday's meet is the last of the regular season for the Crimson and White. The team competes in the WAC Championships in Kansas City, Mo., Saturday, Nov. 2.
