LAS VEGAS – The New Mexico state women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision Saturday afternoon to host UNLV at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in its first match of the day.
Â
Doubles action saw
Gavi Kalaga and
Harsha Challa fall on court No. 1 before
Yadira Rubio and
Chloe Gavino knotted things up with a win at the No. 3 position 6-3. However,
Rebecca Keijzerwaard and
Lindsay Harlas couldn't fend off UNLV's pair of Connie Li and Izumi Asano after tying things up at 5-5 and fell 7-5 to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead.
Â
NM State's deficit grew to 2-0 in singles play when Rubio was bested on court No. 4 6-3, 6-1. Keijzerwaard fell soon after that at the top singles position 6-2, 6-2 before UNLV's Samantha Li took down Gavino 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the match.
Â
NM State will now get a little rest before facing Colorado State later this afternoon before wrapping up the weekend in Sin City with UC Riverside on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. (MT).
