LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team fended off a fearless UTSA team Sunday afternoon for the 4-3 victory at home.

The Aggies (5-4) took care of business in doubles action with
Yadira Rubio and
Lindsay Harlas clinching the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court No. 2 after
Chloe Gavino and
Rebecca Keijzerwaard opened the match with an easy 6-1 victory on court No. 1.

UTSA's Jasmin Star knotted the match up in singles play when she bested Keijzerwaard 7-5, 6-0 on court No. 1.
Harsha Challa made it 2-1 in favor of the home team after cruising past her opponent at the No. 3 singles slot 6-2, 6-2.

After taking the first set, Harlas couldn't hold off Laura Cabrera on court No. 2 and fell in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. With the match tied once more,
Gavi Kalaga gave New Mexico State the advantage one again with a three-set battle 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 on court No. 6 before the Roadrunners (6-7) tied things up 3-3 with a win on court No. 4.

The match came down to Rubio, who had dropped her first set in a tiebreaker before forcing a third. Trailing early on in the third set, the senior rallied back and tied it up at 6-6 before prevailing 6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (4) on a dominant tiebreaker to clinch the match for NM State.

The Aggies will hit the road next week as they travel to Laramie, Wyo., for a neutral match against Montana State (March 2) and Wyoming (March 3).
