PHOENIX – The New Mexico State women's tennis team opened up Western Athletic Conference play with a dominant 5-2 win over Kansas City on Friday at the GCU Tennis Facility.

The Aggies started off well with
Lindsay Harlas and
Yadira Rubio taking down their opponents on court No. 2 by score of 6-2 before
Chloe Gavino and
Rebecca Keijzerwaard clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory on court No. 3.

Kansas City grabbed the first point in singles action after Sharma Riddhi won the match due to
Neus Torregrosa retiring.
Gavi Kalaga, however, got the point back for NM State (7-5) with a 6-0, 6-1 thrashing of her opponent on court No. 6. Keijzerwaard followed that up with a 6-1, 6-4 at the top singles position and the 3-1 lead.

Harsha Challa put on the finishing touches and clinched the match for the Aggies with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Yana Grechkina on court No. 4. Rubio gave the Aggies a 5-1 edge against the Roos before the match ended 5-2 in favor of New Mexico State.

The Aggies remain in the Valley of the Sun for a 4 p.m. (MT) match against UT Rio Grande Valley in the second contest of the weekend in the WAC pod.
