@NMStateWGolf Looks to Reignite WAC Championship Dominance

The NM State women’s golf team heads to Lakewood, Wash. looking to win its fifth WAC Championship in the last six years.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's golf team gets set for the postseason as the team travels to Lakewood, Wash. for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, April 18-20, at the Oakbrook Golf Club. The Aggies look to capture their fifth WAC title in the past six years.

Heading into the conference tournament, the championship poll was released and in a vote of the league's head coaches, who could not vote for their own team, NM State was selected as the favorite to win the 2019 women's golf title. The Aggies received six of nine first place votes to finish atop the poll with 54 points.

Defending champion Grand Canyon picked up the remaining three first place votes and 50 total points to finish second. Seattle U was picked third with 40 points, followed closely by Utah Valley with 38 points. Kansas City and UT Rio Grande Valley tied for fifth with 24 points each. CSU Bakersfield was seventh followed by Chicago State in eighth. California Baptist is ineligible for the team title due to the transition to NCAA Division I but is set to send five golfers as individuals to compete for medalist honors.

For the championship tournament, NM State is sending a starting lineup that features Pun Chanachai, Chantal Dueringer, Dominique Galloway, Maria Prado and Angela Xu. The junior duo of Chanachai and Galloway currently rank second and fourth in the conference in stroke average, respectively, at 73.5 and 74.2 strokes per round.
