OREM, Utah – New Mexico State track and field finished the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships from Hal Wing Track & Field on Saturday. The Aggies placed second as a team during the conference meet. Lashira Tremble was named the High Point Athlete and the Outstanding Track Athlete for the meet.
Keyarha Wilson took home the WAC title in the high jump, posting a personal best mark of 1.72m (5-7.75). Kayli Farmer came in seventh in the event when she jumped 1.63m (5-4.25). Hannah Smith claimed the league title when she jumped 12.82m (42-0.75) in the triple jump.
The 100m title went to Tremble when the junior ran 11.58 during the race. Teammate Keosha Sanders followed closely behind in second, running 11.65 in the event.
Camira Haughton won the 400m, clocking in at 53.43 during the race. Takiyah Johnson came in sixth, finishing with a time of 56.09.
The 4x100m relay brought home the gold for the Aggies when they ran a season best time. The team, comprised of Telecia Briscoe, Asjah Wallace, Tremble, and Lanie Whelpley, clocked in at 45.14 to take the top spot. The 4x400m relay came in first as well with Whelpley, Johnson, Haughton and Wallace running a season best time of 3:41.06.
For the 1,500m, Crissey Amberg came in third, posting a time of 4:29.31. The senior also came in third during the 800m race, clocking in at 2:10.92. Leah Salazar took home eighth, posting a time of 2:17.72 in the 800m event.
In the 200m, Tremble (24.52) came in second while Haughton (24.59) placed third. Wallace finished the race in fifth when she ran 24.85.
During the 5,000m race, Jess Dominguez came in fourth when she recorded a time of 18:08.98.
Wallace also took third in the 100m hurdles, clocking in at 14.07 for the event. Arniesha Mitchell followed closely behind in fourth, posting a time of 14.09.
Elizabeth Mendoza finished in fourth during the 400m hurdles when she ran 1:02.65. In the discus, Bristol O'Connor claimed sixth when she threw 44.73m (146-9).
Grand Canyon claimed the women's team title, posting 203.50 points. The Aggies (191.50) followed in second place while Utah Valley (145.50) finished in third.
