Keep Your Enemies Closer
Despite being in two different states, the campuses of NM State and UTEP are just 38 miles apart on I-10. Here is a look at some other college rivalries that keep their enemies close:
Â
Cincinnati and Xavier – 3 miles
Rice and Houston – 3 miles
Wright State and Dayton – 10 miles
Duke and North Carolina – 10 miles
USC and UCLA – 13 miles
Bowling Green and Toledo – 24 miles
NC State and North Carolina – 24 miles
Cal and Stanford – 31 miles

Scouting the Miners
UTEP holds a 9-1 advantage all time over the Aggies, with the two teams meeting each year. Last season in El Paso, UTEP took down NM State 4-1. The Miners currently hold a 3-1-2 record and are coming off back-to-back wins over Texas State and Southern Utah.
Â
Senior midfielder Danielle Carreon paces the Miners' attack as she leads the squad in points (5) and goals (2). Defender Lauren Crenshaw (2g), who led UTEP in goals (7) and points (15) a season ago, and Tessa Carlin (4a) have each added four points for the Miners.
Â
Emily Parrot, a freshman, has started five matches in goal while appearing in all six. She has made 18 saves to along with a 1.06 goals-against average.
Â
Last Time Out
The Aggies hosted preseason Sun Belt favorite Texas State at the Soccer Athletic Complex on Sunday, Sept. 8. The two teams went back and forth for the majority of the first half before the Bobcats took a 1-0 lead on a header from Haley Groff in the 40
th minute.
Â
However, as it has done all year, NM State came out of the half firing.
Eliudth Gonzalez played a crossed to
Xitlaly Hernandez who found
Shea O'Connor in the 6-yard box. O'Connor then finished her second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 in the 46
th minute.
Â
The Aggies then forced saves in the 81
st, 82
nd and 90
th minutes but could not find a winner and the two teams went into overtime. Gonzalez and O'Connor both had chances to win it in overtime but their shots were saved and the two sides ended in a 1-1 draw.
