Aggie swimmers to compete Feb. 17-20, divers Feb. 25-27

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State swimming and diving team is all set for Western Athletic Conference Championships in St. George, Utah, from Feb. 17-20. The Divers are set to compete at NAU's Wall Aquatic Center from Feb. 25-27.

"We are tremendously proud of our team and how they've handled all the stress and adversity this year," said head coach Rick Pratt.  "From quarantines, to zoom dry-land sessions, numerous practice schedules, online school, and being disciplined in their social distancing, our team has made great efforts to ensure that they continue to succeed as a team, no matter what is put in front of them.  It is amazing that we get to celebrate all their sacrifices this week at the WAC championship meet.  It's been a year since we'll face a meet like this with this long format, and for us to be successful we've got to tackle one event at a time, be grateful for that opportunity, support each other, and of course have fun!  If we can do all that I think we'll be very successful.  In the end we're excited to watch some racing, but we're already proud of this team regardless of the outcome this week.  I am also proud and thankful to our administration, for finding creative ways to keep our season moving despite all of their challenges.  In the end this year has been a battle, but I think we're going to come out of things better than ever, because that's what Aggies do."

Typically, the swimming and diving squads compete together at WAC Championships but the two have been split into separate meets this season. Following diving championships, the two meets' scores will be combined with cumulative scores posted and a champion announced following the diving event.

In a poll of the WAC's head coaches, Northern Arizona was picked to win its eighth-straight WAC swimming and diving championship with five first-place votes and 46 points. NM State was slated to finish fourth in the poll with 31 points.

Aggie fans can catch prelims on the WAC Digital Network as well as Facebook Live, on the WAC's Facebook page. Finals are available to stream on ESPN+ with a paid subscription.
