Third-place finish highlights NM State's day two performance

Day Two Results | WAC Swimming & Diving Championships Results

ST. GEORGE, Utah -
A strong start on day two of the WAC Swimming & Diving Championships helped the NM State swimming team remain in contention for the team title.

The Aggies' night started with a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The NM State quartet of Aimee Burton, Neza Kocijan, Airam Oliva-Aun and Natalia Villa were clocked in a time of 1:32.79 to take their place on the podium.

"In the entirety of my coaching career here with the Aggies we have never had more athletes qualify for finals than we did today," commented NM State head coach Rick Pratt. "Our relay started the night off with a medal and from there we had nearly all of our swims improve from the morning session. The only guarantee this week is that there will be some absolutely, shockingly great performances and some not so great ones."

Katherine Harston secured a third-place finish in the 'B' finals of the 500-yard freestyle, putting forth a time of 5:01.46.

The 'A' finals of the 200-yard IM saw Jordan Andrusak miss a podium finish by less than one second. Andrusak's fourth-place time of 2:04.42 was just .65 seconds behind the event's third-place finisher. Lindsay Puhalski (2:04.70) finished two spots behind Andrusak in the event.

"Championship teams are the ones that manage those highs and lows the best and we have two full days of swimming left," continued Pratt. "We are so proud of this group and are not taking for granted what a privilege it is to be competing at a championship meet this week."

Day three of the WAC Swimming & Diving Championships begins at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning with five preliminary round events. Friday's evening session, which will consist of six finals events, is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. The prelims can be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network while ESPN+ and the ESPN app will stream Friday's finals events.
