Aidan Thomas led the way for the NM State men's golf team on day one of the Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas. Play was suspended due to darkness with the Aggies having two holes left in the second round. The conclusion of the second round will begin at 7 a.m. with the third round following immediately.
In the first round, freshman
Joseph Robson led the Aggies, as he posted a 75 (+3) in his first ever round of college golf. Robson's first round was highlighted by three birdies on the front nine to shoot a one-over 37.
After posting a 77 (+5) in the first round, Thomas came out on fire with a birdie on the par-four third. Thomas would make par on the next five holes before surrendering a bogey on the par-five ninth. On the back-nine, Thomas made par on the 10th and 11th before making bogey on the 12th, but bounced back with a birdie on the 176-yard par-three to finish one-over at the conclusion of play. Thomas finished the day six-over through 34 holes and tied for 33rd with Smith.
After a first round 77 (+5), Smith struggled in the early part of the second round with three bogeys in the first nine holes, but he would respond with three birdies in the next six holes to get him one-over in the round and six-over for the tournament.
Freshman
Matthew Jackman bounced back from a first round 84 (+12), as he is one-over through 16 holes in the second round.
Through 34 holes, the Aggies are sitting in 13th-place out of 17 teams with a total score of 308 (+27). Texas A&M leads the tournament with a score of 285 (+4).
