LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Crown 'em.
By winning three of their four regular-season Western Athletic Conference matches, the NM State men's tennis team captured a share of the 2021 WAC regular season title.
The Aggies finished their 2021 WAC schedule with a mark of 3-1 while league-leading Grand Canyon posted a 3-0 showing in conference action. Because of UTRGV opted out of the remainder of its season earlier this week with injuries, GCU was unable to play them. The Lopes were scheduled to play the Vaqueros on Sunday and as a result of a conference formula weighing percentages for wins and matches played, the Aggies and Lopes will share the regular-season crown.
For seeding purposes in the upcoming 2021 WAC Men's Tennis Tournament, which will be held at the NM State Tennis Center in Las Cruces, N.M., the Aggies will be the second seed while the Lopes will be the top seed in the four-team tournament.
NM State is set to wrap up its regular season schedule at the NM State Tennis Center Saturday (April 17) with a non-conference showdown against NCAA Division II foe UT-Permian Basin. First serve in the Aggies' first home match of 2021 is set for 1:00 p.m.
