Complete Entries List
THE STARTING BLOCK
• After competing in just two events during the 2020-21 season, the NM State women's swimming & diving team begins its first full season since 2019-20 this Friday in Kansas as three members of the Aggies' squad are scheduled to compete in the CSCAA National Collegiate Open Water Swimming Championship.
• Lone Star Lake in Lawrence, Kan., is the site of the competition and the women's race is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. MT that morning.
• NM State's competition contingent consists of sophomore Nicole Salladin as well as freshmen Zoey Dodson and Millie Sicko. Dodson and Sicko are making their NM State debuts while Salladin is looking to build on a solid debut season for the Aggies in 2020-21.
• Last year, Salladin secured a pair of third-place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.02) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:32.51) at a tri-meet in Tucson featuring Arizona, Northern Colorado and NM State.
• Salladin also competed in the WAC Swimming & Diving Championships last season, generating times of 5:08.34 in the 500-yard freestyle and 17:50.22 in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
THE COURSE
• Swimmers will traverse a five-kilometer course through Lone Star Lake on the day of the race.
THE FIELD
• Student-athletes from 21 NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III institutions are set to converge on Lone Star Lake for the women's 5K race. In all, 77 distance swimmers will be competing in the event. NM State is the lone Western Athletic Conference (WAC) institution to send student-athletes to the event.
QUOTABLE | NM STATE HEAD COACH RICK PRATT
"Our distance swimmers have shown a lot of excitement for this event and it has been great to get a little extra distance work in at the start of our year for that group. After last year, we are going to take advantage of any and every opportunity to get better and compete. This is a great challenge and should be a lot of fun. We have also had many on the team help these three ladies get ready, and that has been inspiring for me to see."
COMING UP NEXT
• A stretch of three consecutive events in Las Cruces awaits the Aggies once the CSCAA National Collegiate Open Water Swimming Championships conclude. NM State is set to welcome its swimming & diving alums back to the pool for its alumni meet at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25. From there, the team will host its annual intrasquad competition - the Crimson & White meet - at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29.
