BRYAN, Texas – The NM State men's and women's cross-country teams took a trip to the Lone Star State for the fourth and final regular season meet before the two team compete in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships in two weeks.
The field was very deep featuring 40 schools on the men's side, and 38 on the women. The men's race alone saw 360 runners take the starting line, while the women's race saw 326 runners participate. Some of the schools that made the trip are some of the top programs in their respected regions.
As mentioned, this is the final meet for most DI schools heading into championship weekend in a couple of weeks, which means a lot of schools were trying to break into their regional rankings or simply improve their current standing, including the Aggies.
In the end, the men's team finished middle of the pack placing 26th, and the women impressively finished in the top ten coming in seventh.

QUOTABLE | ANEKIN HETMAN & EMILY STUTESMAN
Hetman: "It was a tough day for racing today as it was very humid and a tough course overall, but I think we had guys take the next step with their racing. It was a very mental race, and it was important to push through the middle part of the race. That is what we were focusing in on as we head to the WAC meet next and I think we got what we wanted out of this one. Personally, I was only 10 seconds off my PR on a much tougher course than Tucson, so looking to make a huge jump at conference. Aggie up!"
Stutesman: "Today was tough with extreme humidity and 42 teams competing, but our team faced all of it with courage and strength. I am beyond blessed to have been able to fight alongside these strong women today and come out with a 7th place team finish! This race is a huge step for us leading into WAC, as we are continuing to put all of the necessary pieces together. Each race has been a learning experience and we continue to grow as a team each day. I am beyond proud to call myself an Aggie! Thank you for all the support, Aggie nation, much love!"

In two weeks, the Aggies will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas for their final WAC Championship appearance before heading over to Conference-USA next year, along with all other NM State athletics. Following that, both teams will have to await and see if either team qualifies for the NCAA DI Mountain Regional in Albuquerque, N.M on November 11.
