 LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Still fresh off their 4-0 victory Friday night, the NM State women's soccer team was looking for their second consecutive conference win. 

The match was a very physical one - 28 total fouls were called (NM State 15, ACU 13) and two players and an Abilene Christian assistant coach received yellow cards. 

In the end, the Aggies were able to outlast the Wildcats in a low scoring battle, needing just one goal to claim the 1-0 victory. 


SCORING SUMMARY | Box Score

29' | Megan Ormson scored her second goal in as many games. The score followed an Aggie corner kick into the box - Sofia Beerworth initially took the shot, but had it blocked. Ormson rebounded and fired the go-ahead goal. 

PERFORMANCES / STATS OF NOTE

  • NM State has shutout their last two opponents by a combined score of 5-0. They have six shutouts on the season with 16 goals in those matches. 
  • NM State took nine shots in the match (five on goal).
  • Abilene Christian took 11 shots (five on goal).
  • The Aggies had double digit corners for the second match in a row (10).
  • Megan Ormson scored her second goal in as many games bringing her season total to two, and career total to eight.
  • Makenna Gottschalk recorded her sixth shutout of the season. She also secured her 48 save of the season. 
  • Three yellow cards were distributed throughout the game - ACUs Neal Ozmun (50'), NM States Landy Williams (80') and Loma McNeese (80'). This is Williams third yellow for the year, McNeese's first. 
  • With the win, the Aggies added three more points to their conference total giving them 11. For the moment, that puts the Aggies in first place in the WAC. However, we will have to await the results of the Southern Utah vs. Utah Tech match as the two teams both have 10 points coming into the match.

NEXT UP

The Aggies have one more home game next Friday against the first place Southern Utah. Kickoff for that one is set for 7 p.m. MT. After that, the Aggies will be on the road for the final four games of the regular season, before heading to Seattle for the WAC tournament.
