LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State men's and women's cross country teams will head to Nacogdoches, Texas this Saturday to compete at the 2022 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships. 
 
THE STARTING LINE
  • New Mexico State's Women and Men Cross Country Teams are off to compete at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Nacogdoches, Texas.
  • The meet will take place at Pecan Acres Park on Saturday, October 29, 2022. At 8:00 a.m. MT, the Aggie women will compete in a six-kilometer race, followed by the men's six-kilometer race at 9:00 a.m. MT.
  • In the Lady Aggies last meet of the regular season they finished seventh with five runners finishing in the top 100 runners. They are currently ranked 14th in the D1 Mountain Region.

THE FIELD
  • In addition to New Mexico State, the Aggies will be running alongside runners from the other 12 WAC programs. This season the Aggies have competed against six out of the twelve schools - Grand Canyon, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton, UT Rio Grande Valley, UT Arlington. Abilene Christian, Cal Baptist, Seattle U, Southern Utah, Utah Tech, and Utah Valley are the six remaining schools the Aggies have not competed against this season.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
  • The Aggies men's team recently placed twenty-sixth out of 40 schools in their last regular home meet of the season. This meet took place in Bryan, Texas at the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
  • Aniken Hetman led the men's team with a 44th place finish crossing the line at 24:45.7.
  • Collins Yego finished just outside the top 100 with a time of 25:24.8.
  • Other runners that raced include Micah Too (26:14.0) Nick Allred (26:51.5), and Jasob Grosch (26:59.9).

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
  • The women's team is coming off an impressive seventh-place finish at the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
  • The team currently ranks 14th in the DI Mountain Region.
  • The Aggie Women's team was led by Emily Stutesman who placed just under the top 30 with a time of 21:24.7.
  • Thobile Amon (21:35.8) and Maggie Gibbs (21:40.6) finished in the top 50. Thobile Amon placed 36th and Maggie Gibbs came in right behind at 44th place out of 326 runners.
  • Thulisile Amon (21:45.5) and Richelle Sandin (22:03.7) finished inside the top 100 runners. Thulisile Amon finished 51st, Sandin finished 66th. 
  • Other runners that participated include Kayla O'Connell (22:34.0), Mia Regan (23:30.2) and Leah Clark (23:48.5).

The WAC Championships serve as an opportunity for the Aggies to qualify for the NCAA Mountain Regional in Albuquerque, N.M. on Friday November 11th.
