DENVER – Just one month into the 2022-23 season, NM State has claimed two TicketSmarterr WAC Golfer of the Month honors. The WAC announced Wednesday afternoon that both Garrison Smith and Alison Gastelum have earned the honors.
 
Smith, a senior, finished both of NM State's tournaments in September with third-place honors. At the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Smith fired a 65 (-7) in the final round – A new career-low. Later in the month, Smith shot under par in all three rounds of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque. In the final round, the Mansfield, Texas native continued his hot-streak, shooting a 67 (-5) to lead NM State.
 
Gastelum fired a career-best 206 (-7) and placed third in NM State's fall opener - the Golfweek Fall Challenge. She shot below par in all three rounds of the South Carolina tournament, matching the team's low score of 67 in round two. Gastelum recorded 13 birdies at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic en route to her second straight top-ten finish. The Chihuahua, Mexico native finished with par or better in all three rounds in Colorado.
 
On Wednesday, Gastelum and the Aggies are completing the Golf Iconic Classic in Las Cruces. The Women's Golfer of the Month entered the final round tied for fourth as the Aggies look to add to their trophy case.
 
The monthly honor marks the first recognition of Smith's career from the conference office. Previously, Gastelum has earned All-WAC honors twice and WAC Freshman of the Year honors in 2021.
