Box Score
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - NM State women's soccer was back in action Sunday afternoon still fresh off their win against UTRGV Friday. Today they took on Stephen F. Austin for their second road game of the weekend and fourth conference matchup of the year.
The Lumberjacks possessed the ball the majority of the first half and were not going to let Aggie defenders intimidate them. They scored a goal 13 minutes into the match and added another late score in the 85-minute to secure the 2-1 victory over the Aggies.
NM State looked to have a chance to tie the game in the final seconds of the match when Gia Valenti got a good look to the left side of the Aggies offensive half. She took a shot that looked good off the leg, but ended up hitting the top crossbar, allowing the lumberjacks to clear the ball, and let time to expire.
Scoring Summary
13' | The Lumberjacks were aggressive early pushing the ball into the Aggies half of the field. Six of their ten first half shots came in the opening 15 minutes of the game. Jayme Bailey took one of those shots off a pass from Morgan Donohue and perfectly placed it into the upper left corner of the net, just past the reach of Makenna Gottschalk. This gave the Lumberjacks the early 1-0 lead.
73' | The Aggies struggling to find good shooting lanes throughout the match but started to get better looks in the second half. Brooke Schultz passed a ball out to Bianca Chacon who sent a cross into the box hoping to find a teammate and found the head of Loma McNeese who knocked the ball past the goalkeeper for the game-tying score.
85' | Following a Thalia Chaverria foul, the Lumberjacks were set up with a free kick just outside the goal box. Reaganne Crane took the shot off the free kick and found the net after the ball seemed to deflect off an Aggie defender. This goal would prove to be the game winner for SFA.
