HONOLULU – The fall season has drawn to a close with a second place finish at the Rainbow Wahine Inviational for NM State women's golf. The Aggies posted their lowest round of the tournament by firing a 283 (-5) but UC Davis was simply on fire. The California-based Aggies matched Baylor for the lowest round of the day, shooting 13-under at 275. Baylor ran away with the team championship in Hawai'i, besting the pair of Aggie squads by 19 strokes apiece.
NM State carded a pair of top-ten finishers in
Emma Bunch and
Alison Gastelum. Bunch posted the Aggies' low-round of the day on Wednesday when she fired a 68 (-4). The Lynge, Denmark native carded seven birdies throughout the round, including four on the front nine to shoot four-under before the turn.
Gastelum matched her best round of the tournament when she turned in her second straight 70 (-2) on Wednesday. Like Bunch, Gastelum finished the front nine holes with four birdies before finishing the round at two-under. Much like Gastelum, Isabel Laulhé and
Valentina Origel also turned in their lowest scores from Hawai'i on Wednesday.
Origel played a steady brand of golf in the final round. Throughout the round, Origel made par of better on 15 of the 18 holes to finish with a 74 (+2). Laulhé followed the same school of thought in the final round, shooting par or better on 16 holes. The Argentinian birdied holes two and 13 before finishing the round at an even 72.
NM State will be back in action on Tuesday, February 27 at the GCU Invitational. Hosted by Grand Canyon, the tournament will be a two-day event at the GCU Golf Course in Phoenix.
