NORMAN, Okla. – Yet another former Aggie great has been enshrined for his efforts surrounding the game of golf. Thursday, former NM State men's golfer Marlin "Cricket" Musch was honored as a member of the 2023 Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame.

Musch, who was inducted for his work as a coach, played for the Aggies from 1972-76 and notably earned Honorable Mention All-American honors following a standout season in 1975. 16 years after finishing his time with the program, Musch was named to the US Bank/NM State Athletics Hall of Fame.

As a player, Musch won the 1973 William Tucker Invitational championship and 1975 New Mexico State Intercollegiate tournament. Shortly after his time as an Aggie, Musch was named the head coach at I-10 rival UTEP in 1981. With the Musch at the helm, the Miners shared national runner-up honors with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State at the 1988 Division I National Championship. In total, Musch was named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Coach of the Year on three occasions and led the Miners to six national championship appearances.

Following a successful career with UTEP, Musch began his 30-plus year career in golf agency as the Executive Director of the Sun Bowl and El Paso Sun Carnival Association, where he ran the Sun Bowl College All-America Golf Classic from 1990 to 1992. He also spent over 10 years at PING as their Director of College and Amateur Player Development (1992-98). Currently, Musch is in a role with Nike, where he has been for over 15 years. With Nike, he first served as their Golf Sports Marketing Director of College and Amateur Development (2007-21) that included leading relations for the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational.

About GCAA Hall of Fame
In 1980, the GCAA began inducting outstanding men's college golf coaches into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame. Since then, the hall has grown to include more than 160 members. To be selected to the Hall of Fame, a coach must be nominated by their peers and then selected by the GCAA Hall of Fame Committee. Selection criteria not only include a coach's record on the golf course, but also their contributions to the game, student-athletes, and school.
