TUCSON, Ariz. –
Day one of the Willie Williams Classic, hosted by the University of Arizona has come and gone, with numerous Aggies recording top five finishes and new personal bests. Terice Steen broke her own school record in the 400m hurdles while also taking first-place to lead the record-breaking performances.

Terice Steen ran away for the competition en route to a first-place finish in the 400m hurdles, setting a personal best with a time of 59.25. Not only did Steen break a personal best – she also managed to break the school record, eclipsing her own time of 59.38 at the 2021 Masked Rider Open. Breanna Moss recorded a top-five finish for the second week in a row (fourth), also setting a personal record in the event with a time of 1:03.47.

Jhana Downie dazzled in the 200m dash, taking second with a wind adjusted time of 23.76 (-0.5 m/s). The junior from Sunrise, Florida has not finished outside the top-ten in the finals of any event (indoor or outdoor) since the Mt. SAC Relays in April of last year.

Emily Birch followed close behind in fifth place, posting a final tally of 56.46m (185-3"), her 12th time finishing top-five in the event. Makiya Moore rounded out the list of NM State student-athletes in the top ten, placing eighth with her mark of 52.15m (171-1").

Bailey Beene captured an eighth-place finish in the javelin with a final distance of 39.45m (129-5"), her ninth career top-ten finish in the event.

Despite being the only Aggie in the 3000m steeplechase, Kayla O'Connell made her presence felt, finishing in fifth-place with a time of 11:59.10, a personal record.

In a loaded field with fifty entrants, Maggie Gibbs led the field of Aggies, finishing in 12th with a time of 4:39.59. Less than five seconds behind her teammate, Emily Stutesman managed a result of 16th place, tallying a time of 4:44.29.
