THE FIRST SERVE
• After a weekend in Arizona, the Aggies return home to officially start WAC play as they play host to Seattle U and Grand Canyon on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
• In addition to this weekend marking NM State's first league matches of the season, it will also represent the Aggies' final homestand of the season.
• On Sunday, NM State will also recognize seniors
Jordy Visser and
Corey Clarke on Senior Day.
• Senior
Jordy Visser leads the Aggies into conference play as the top singles player for Head Coach
Carlos Vargas – winning four matches on the season, including three wins at the No. 1 position.
• Meanwhile, Luca Fé D'Ostiani and
Itay Feigin have put together three singles wins each this season to rank second among the Crimson & White.
• In their first year playing together, Visser and
Yehor Opanasenko have also made quite the impression in doubles action as they are responsible for four of the Aggies' six doubles victories this season.
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Seattle U will step on to the courts at the NM State Tennis Center with a 4-6 record on the season and winners of its last two matches. In singles action, the Redhawks are paced by Yu-han Hsieh and Veselin Kiselkov who each have four wins on the season. Meanwhile, Kiselkov also serves as half of SU's top doubles team as he and Clement Hamel have combined to win five of their seven matches alongside one another.
SCOUTING THE LOPES
Grand Canyon has also compiled four wins this spring to hoist a 4-9 record after opening the season with a 1-5 mark. The Lopes' top representative in singles play is Alfred Almasi who is responsible for five of GCU's 21 singles wins on the season. The tandem of David Wekesa and Jonthan Da Silva serve as the top doubles team for Grand Canyon – winning three of their nine matches thus far.
COMING UP NEXT
Upon completing its final home match of the season, NM State will travel to Texas for a three-day stretch in which they will face off with UTRGV and UT Arlington on April 6 and April 8, respectively. After colliding with the Vaqueros and Mavericks, the Aggies will conclude their regular season with a dual versus Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas, on April 16.
