Joey Ortiz's MLB debut takes the top spot among professional Aggies

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Over the last week, Joey Ortiz became the seventh player in NM State history to make his Major League Baseball debut while Sammy Natera Jr. picked up his first professional win for the Tri-City Dust Devils.
 
MLB
Kyle Bradish (Baltimore Orioles) – Bradish made his fourth MLB start of the season on April 30 at Detroit. The right-hander worked 4.2 innings before turning it over to the bullpen, allowing just three runs. Bradish did not factor into Sunday's decision and holds a 1-1 record with a 6.14 ERA on the season.  
 
Triple-A
Nick Gonzales (Indianapolis Indians; Pittsburgh) – Gonzales was placed on the 7-day injured list by the Indians on April 25.  
 
Joey Ortiz (Norfolk Tides; Baltimore) – Ortiz made his Major League debut last week, playing three games for the Orioles before being optioned back to Norfolk. Ortiz became only the second Orioles player to drive in three or more runs in their debut, joining Don Baylor in 1970. The prospect hit .250 over three games with the Orioles, driving in four runs on two hits. In his return to Triple-A, Ortiz went 2-4 with a home run and four runs batted in.
 
Double-A
Daniel Johnson (San Antonio Missions; San Diego) – Over six games last week, Johnson tallied six hits, including a three-hit showing against Northwest Arkansas on April 28. One night earlier, Johnson lifted his second home run of the season off of Naturals' pitching. With the strong showing, Johnson's season average is up to .206 with the Missions.  
 
Marcel Renteria (Binghamton Rumble Ponies; New York Mets) – Renteria made a scoreless inning for the Rumble Ponies on April 27. In the night cap of a doubleheader against Akron, Renteria worked 1.2 innings and allowed just one baserunner on a free pass. The Nogales native struck out a season-high two in his longest outing of the season. In three games for Binghampton, Renteria boasts a 0-0 record with a 2.45 ERA.
 
High-A
Ian Mejia (Rome Braves; Atlanta) – Mejia did not make an appearance for High-A Rome last week. Mejia boasts a 2-1 record with a 3.74 ERA for the Braves affiliate.  
 
Sammy Natera Jr. (Tri-City Dust Devils; Los Angeles Angels) – Natera notched his first professional win on May 2. Working 5.1 innings, Natera allowed just two runs as the Dust Devils defeated the Everett AquaSox. On the season, Natera has posted a 1-0 record with a 1.72 ERA in 15.2 innings of work.
 
Brock Whittlesey (Lansing Lugnuts; Oakland) – Whittlesey took the loss in an April 28 contest against Quad Cities, allowing three runs in an inning of action. The reliever has posted an 0-2 record on the season with an ERA of 12.27 in High-A.
 
Single-A
Alex Bustamante (Tampa Tarpons; New York Yankees) – Bustamante appeared in two games last week, seeing time against Jupiter and Bradenton. Over 3.0 innings of work, the reliever allowed just one run on one hit while also striking out three. Throughout the season, Bustamante has appeared in seven games, posting a 1-0 record that pairs with a 4.50 ERA.
 
Chris Jefferson (Modesto Nuts; Seattle) – Jefferson made one appearance for Modesto last week. In 2.0 innings of action, Jefferson allowed just one run on one hit, while matching his season-high for strikeouts with two. This season, Jefferson has an 0-1 record in 11.0 innings, posting a 3.27 ERA.
