LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State Aggies won their season opener tonight at home 8-6 over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Head Coach Jake Angier earns his first win as the head coach.

Starting pitcher Treyjen Meza threw for six innings, only giving up four runs, two in the top of the first and two in the top of the third. Meza struck out seven batters, walking just one and only gave up four hits.

The Aggies remained scoreless through four innings until Keith Jones II homered in the bottom of the fifth to drive in Romeo Ballesteros. The bottom of the fifth saw a lot of action out of the Aggies.

After the two-run shot by Jones the Aggies had five-straight walks and a wild pitch that would lead to five more runs in the fifth. The Aggies were able to notch seven runs in the fifth inning.

Moving on to the bottom of the sixth, freshman third baseman Steve Solorzano hit a solo shot to put the Aggies up by four. This home run would be Solorzano's first home run in his collegiate career.

The Jackrabbits scored two more runs off a two-run home run in the top of the eighth threatening the Aggies lead. However, this would be the last time both the Jackrabbits and Aggies score in this game.

Ballesteros shined at the plate, going two for three with two RBIs and one walk. The only other Aggie to have two hits in this game was Solorzano who also went two for three with one RBI, two walks and was brought home twice.
