LAS CRUCES, N.M. – After opening the 2024 season with the NM State-hosted Lori Fitzgerald Memorial Open, the Aggies will stay within the Land of Enchantment for their second meet of the season. Taking place at the UNM North Golf Course, the Aggie men and women will compete on Saturday, Sept. 14., with the women's 5K beginning at 7:30 a.m. and the men's 5K slated to begin at 7:55 a.m. Fans can follow along with the meet through
chronotrack.
The Starting Line
- The Aggies will take part in the Lobo Invitational as they continue the 2024 season on Saturday, Sept. 14. The women's 5K will start at 7:30 a.m., with the men's 5K beginning at approximately 8:00 a.m.
- NM State will compete alongside a trio of programs, including host New Mexico, El Paso Community College, and Navajo Tech.
- This in the second of four regular season meets the Aggies will compete in ahead of the 2024 CUSA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2, held in Oxford, Ala. Following that race, any Aggies who qualify would advance to the NCAA Mountain Regional, hosted by the University of Nevada on November 13.
Fresh Faces
- The Aggies welcome 13 new members of the cross country teams, with a wealth of accolades and talent between them.
- NM State landed six transfers in Jonah Archer (GCU), Khloi Bird (Butler CC), Valeria Macias Casas (Universidad Autonoma de Coahuila), Andrew Gibby (Arizona), Rachel O'Brien (Adams State) and Amanda Radava (ULM).
- Along with the transfers, the Crimson & White added seven freshman in the recruiting class – LeslieAnn Apodaca, Orion Chavez, Angel Maese, Alexandra Ordaz, Marisa Sena, Gabriel Uranga and Leo Valenzuela.
- Apodaca (Las Cruces), Chavez (Albuquerque), and Sena (Albuquerque) join from the Land of Enchantment, while Maese, Ordaz, Uranga and Valenzuela add to the program from nearby El Paso.
- At the NM State hosted Lori Fitzgerald Memorial Open, freshman Leo Valenzuela recorded the third fastest time among Aggie men, crossing the line with a time of 15:30.46.

- Jordan Torres led the way for the Aggie women with a time of 23:51.30 to finish 14th among 128 entrants. This time also represented a personal best in the 6k for the sophomore from El Paso.
- Angela Korte shattered her previous best in the 6k by nearly two minutes, posting a time of 24:42.50 to take 23rd – improving on her 70th place finish at the 2022 edition of the Texas Tech Open.
- Anekin Hetman paced NM State, leading the Crimson & White pack to finish 34th overall with a time of 26:55.70. This positioned the Aggies for an eighth-place finish among 16 teams at the meet, totaling 259 points.
