JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — NM State battled back from a first-half deficit to earn a 1-1 draw on the road against Jax State on Saturday night at the JSU Soccer Complex. The Aggies extended their unbeaten streak against the Gamecocks to six matches, remaining undefeated in the all-time series.
After falling behind in the 32nd minute, NM State responded late as freshman defender
Milana Eyrich scored her first goal of the season in the 89th minute off an assist from
Andrea Alvarenga. The equalizer capped a strong second-half surge for the Aggies, who outshot Jax State 10-8 and generated eight corner kicks to the Gamecocks' one. Head Coach
Rob Baarts praised his team's response after halftime, noting,
"[In the second half], we played with passion… I take my hat off to Jax State. They jumped on our team in the first half, spread us out, and made us chase. But once we solved that, it swung the tide our way, and then we raised the bar, energy wise."
Goalkeeper
Valerie Guha recorded two saves while leading a defensive unit that tightened as the match wore on, limiting the Gamecocks' chances in the second half. The result marked the Crimson and White's third draw in league play, keeping the Aggies in solid position in the Conference USA standings as they continue their season.
The Aggies will return home this week as they look to recognize their seniors on Senior Night prior to hosting LA Tech in their final home match of the season on Saturday, Oct. 11, 6 p.m. MT.
