HOUSTON – On Wednesday, NM State Swimming & Diving opened its stay at the Phill Hansel Invitational, visiting the event for the second straight year. Houston is hosting the three-day, 11-team meet from the CRWC Natatorium. The Cougars lead the way with 449 points through one day of action. Meanwhile, the Aggies sit in eighth place with 176 points after the opening round of finals.
The day began with a seventh-place finish in the 200 free relay for
Emily Dobbins,
Dijana Mazumdar,
Kira Brownell and
Katie Rink (1:33.24). After anchoring the event prior, Rink posted a 500 free time of 4:53.51 to earn an eighth-place finish. In the same race,
Naomi Slee was the only other Aggie to collect points, doing so in 4:56.94.
In the 50 free final, Dobbins and Mazumdar went 6-7 to clinch points with marks of 23.08 and 23.11, respectively. The duo later bookended a quartet that also included
Kodi Wiman and
Willow Messner. The grouping teamed up to finish the 400 free relay in 3:44.56, touching the wall in 10
th place.
The divers rounded out the day, with
Mira Tinani and
Peytton Moore both adding to their squad's tally in the 1m dive. Tinani posted a 232.65 in 13
th place, while Moore's 228.10 was good for 17
th out of two dozen finalists. The duo combined for 23 points, rounding out the day with a team tally of 176, ahead of San Jose State (133), New Mexico (106) and Vanderbilt (85).
