Aggies Late Goal Not Enough to Beat Buffaloes

Tessa O’Neill ends Aggies’ scoring drought.

BOULDER, Colo. — The Aggies found the back of the net late but couldn't overcome an early deficit, falling 4-1 to Colorado on Thursday night at Prentup Field. NM State (1-4-0) notched their third goal of the season when freshman forward Tessa O'Neill scored her first career goal in the 89th minute.

Colorado (4-0-1) built a 3-0 lead in the opening half before O'Neill converted off an assist from Milana Eyrich to put NM State on the board. The Buffaloes added a penalty kick less than a minute later to seal the result. Despite the setback, the Aggies generated 12 shots, including six on goal, and earned five corner kicks while goalkeeper Valerie Guha collected six saves to keep NM State within striking distance.

The Crimson and White saw encouraging performances from Meredith Scott and Ariana Ellison, who each registered two shots on goal to test Colorado's back line. NM State also showed improved ball movement in the second half, creating more chances in the final third and pushing the pace against a tough Buffs team. With those positives in hand, the Aggies now look ahead to building momentum as they approach conference play.

NM State will continue their roadtrip by heading to Phoenix, Ariz., to face its second Big 12 opponent this season when they take on the Arizona State Sun Devils on Sunday.
