LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Aggies (1-6-0) held Texas Tech scoreless for more than an hour but couldn't hold off a late surge, falling 2-0 Thursday night at the Soccer Athletic Complex.
NM State battled through the Red Raiders' pressure, limiting the visitors to 11 first-half shots while keeping the match level at the break. Goalkeeper
Valerie Guha continued her strong season between the posts, making seven saves to mark her seventh straight match with at least three stops.
Texas Tech finally broke through in the 70th minute and doubled the lead six minutes later to secure the result. The Crimson and White generated its best chance in the closing moments when
Andrea Alvarenga forced a save in the 89th minute, but the Red Raiders held on. Despite the defeat, the Aggies' defensive resilience and Guha's consistency in net remain key positives as conference play nears.
The Aggies hit the road to face I-25 rival the New Mexico Lobos on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. MT in the UNM Soccer Stadium.
