LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The No. 9 NM State equestrian team and No. 10 SMU ended in a 9-9 tie, but the Aggies won the tie-breaker by a score of 1501.25 to 1479.25 to defeat the Mustangs on Saturday at the New Mexico State Equestrian Center.
NM State (1-0) won both western events as they captured a 3-2 victory in horsemanship and a 3-1 win in reining over SMU (1-3).
Katlynn Crine,
Rianna Storey and
Morgan Matzdorff each earned a point with scores of 74.5, 72.5 and 75, respectively. In reining,
Kyla Myers earned a score of 68.5,
Kimberly Ferrante collected a score of 70 and
Katherine Arnold scored a 68.5 to earn the Aggies' three points.
Cori Cromwell scored an 85 to tie with SMU's Alex Butterworth, but
Chelsea Brady earned a score of 82 to collect a point as NM State fell 3-1 in equitation over fences. Cromwell garnered a point in equitation with 77 points and
Elizabeth Solomon scored 79 points to earn a point as the Aggies fell 3-2 in equitation.
The Aggies will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to take on TCU on Thursday at a time that is TBA.
