NM State Soccer Hits the Road for the 1st Time

Aggies play at Idaho and Cal State Northridge

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – After beginning the season at home, the New Mexico State women's soccer team leaves Las Cruces for the first time this season as it plays at Idaho on Friday and at Cal State Northridge on Sunday.

First up for the Aggies (0-2) is a trip to Moscow, Idaho, to face the Vandals (1-1) on Friday at 6 p.m. (MT) at Guy Wicks Field.  Idaho will be the second Big Sky Conference member NM State will play this season as it began the 2015 campaign with a loss to Eastern Washington.

It will be the home opener for the Vandals after defeating Indiana State, 3-1, at a neutral site and losing at Washington State by the same score.  Four different players have marked a goal for Idaho this season.

The Aggies are 1-4-1 all-time versus the Vandals and will be looking for their first win in Moscow where they are 0-3.  The lone victory for NM State in the series was the first-ever meeting in 2009 when the Aggies won 3-2 at Aggie Memorial Stadium.  Idaho has won the last three meetings, including a series sweep in 2013 when both teams were part of the Western Athletic Conference.

NM State hasn't faired well in its history in first matches away from home.  The Aggies are 1-5 all-time in their first road match of the season with the lone win coming during a neutral site match versus LIU-Brooklyn in 2013.  Last year NM State fell 1-3 at Loyola Marymount to open the season.

The Aggies then heads to California to face CSU Northridge (1-1) at the Matador Soccer Field on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. (MT).  It will be the first-ever meeting on the pitch between NM State and Matadors.

CSU Northridge, which plays Southern Utah on Friday before meeting the Aggies, opened the season with a heartbreaking 0-1overtime loss at Pepperdine.  The Matadors bounced back, however, to defeat Portland State, 3-0, in their home opener on Sunday.  Three different players have each marked goals for CSU Northridge this season.

Although winless, the young Aggies have showed exceptional composure in two tight losses, first to Eastern Washington 1-2 in double overtime and then versus in-state rival New Mexico on Wednesday in a 0-1 loss that was witness by a record crowd of 2,005 fans at the NM State Soccer Athletic Complex.

Both matches this weekend will have live stats available for fans to follow the action.  Fans can access the free live stats by heading to the women's soccer schedule page at www.NMStateSports.com and clicking on the 'live stats' link.  Fans can also keep track of the match with in-game updates on Twitter at @NMStateAggies.

The next home match for NM State will be versus Weber State a week from Friday beginning at 4 p.m. at the NM State Soccer Athletic Complex.
