LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team turned things around on Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex, defeating Weber State 5-2 for its first win of the dual season.
 
"It was good to get a win to close out the weekend, especially having to adjust the lineup each day due to illness and injuries," said women's tennis head coach Ivan Fernandez. "We fought hard today and we have a lot of work to do in the upcoming weeks."
 
NM State cruised early on in doubles action as Chloe Jolliff and Lindsay Harlas teamed up to win their second match in as many days, 6-1, on court No. 3. Rimpledeep Kaur and Ashvarya Shrivastav wrapped up their match soon after at No. 2 doubles with a 6-2 defeat of Morgan Dickason and Kristi Elmer to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead.
 
Erika Castillo Lopez and Gabrielle Joyce had their match left unfinished at 4-4 on court No. 1 after NM State secured the doubles point.
 
In singles play, Jolliff was the first to finish on court No. 3 when she ousted Sarah Parker 6-2, 6-4.
 
Weber State (0-4) tied things up at 2-2 after claiming points at No. 4 and No. 1 singles from Dominique Beauvais and Agata Bachanek, respectively.
 
Harlas gave NM State (1-2) the 3-2 lead over the Wildcats when she downed her opponent in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, for her first collegiate victory.
 
"Lindsay [ Harlas] has had a great opening weekend, winning two doubles and then getting her first collegiate singles win today after losing two close matches the last two days," Fernandez said of the freshman.
 
Castillo Lopez secured the clinching point for NM State when she knocked off Kristi Elmer in a hard-fought match, 7-5, 7-6.
 
Mia Brandt gave the Aggies their fifth point when she battled back from being down one set to win the next two 6-3, 6-3.
 
NM State will now          get two weeks off to sharpen its skills and build on Sunday's win before they head to Tucson, Ariz., for a pair of matches against Pima Community College (Feb. 12) and Arizona (Feb. 13).
