LAS CRUCES – New Mexico State's women's tennis team couldn't contain Northern Arizona on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Lumberjacks 4-0 at the NMSU Tennis Center.
 
"We had chances to win No. 3 doubles and clinch the point, but couldn't close it out," head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We started too slowly on four courts, only winning the first set on Ash's and Chloe's match."
 
The Aggies (2-6) had a tough loss in doubles action, falling in three matches. The visitors took No. 1 doubles when they downed NM State's pair of Rimpledeep Kaur and Ashvarya Shrivastav 6-3. Playing at No. 2 doubles for the first time together, Chloe Jolliff and Lindsay Harlas tied things up on court No. 2 with a 6-2 victory over their counterparts.
 
Playing at No. 3 doubles for the first time in dual play, Mia Brandt and Marie-Pier Thiffault dropped a tough match, 7-5, after tying things up at 5-5.
 
NM State went down early in singles play, dropping the first set on 4-of-6 courts. Erika Castillo Lopez was the first Aggie to fall on court No. 3 to NAU's (6-5) Marta Lewandowska 6-0, 6-1.
 
Moments later, Brandt went down 6-4, 6-0 on court No. 5 to the Lumberjack's Jordan Denesik. The matched was clinched by NAU on court No. 6 when Harlas fell to Eirene Granville 6-4, 6-4.
 
"We showed a lot of promise on some courts, but we need to get off to better starts if we are going to win matches like these," Fernandez said.
 
The Aggies will host the final match of their homestand next Saturday, March 5, against I-10 rival UTEP at noon.
