Aggie Women Double Up at Home

Playing a doubleheader due to weather earlier in the week, the NM State women’s tennis team rattled off a pair of victories at home.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State's women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Easter Sunday with sweeps of Texas-Permian Basin and Western New Mexico at the NMSU Tennis Center.

The wins extended NM State's winning-streak to five on the season, its longest this year, and put the Aggies at 7-7 overall and 2-0 in Western Athletic Conference play.

Match 1 – NM State 7, Texas-Permian Basin 0

In the opening match of the day, NM State made quick work of Texas-Permian Basin (2-10, 0-1 Heartland). The Aggie duo of Rimpledeep Kaur and Ashvarya Shrivastav started things off with a 6-4 win over their opponents at No. 2 doubles before Gabrielle Joyce and Erika Castillo Lopez sealed the doubles point for NM State with a 6-1 victory at the No. 1 position. Chloe Jolliff and Lindsay Harlas won their fourth-straight doubles contest with a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position.

Jolliff put NM State up 2-0 after singles play started with a 6-1, 6-0 ousting of Andreea Villalobos at the No. 3 slot.

Playing at the No. 1 position, Kaur put the Aggies on top 3-0 shortly after the conclusion of Jolliff finishing with a 6-0, 6-1 win of her own.

Castillo Lopez clinched the match for NM State when she defeated Kaleigh Smith 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles slot.

Mia Brandt wrapped up her match at the No. 6 singles hole with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sydney Holdampt before Harlas completing the sweep with a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over Shelby Green at No. 5 singles.

Match 2 – NM State 7, Western New Mexico 0

Playing one player down due to injury, Western New Mexico (9-9, 0-0 RMAC) had little room for error in doubles play as well as singles play. However, the Aggies were dialed in on their focus and blanked the Mustangs on Sunday.

The Aggies quickly took the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles and 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Shrivastav was the first to finish this time around with a whitewashing of her opponent at No. 2 singles. Castillo Lopez quickly wrapped up her match soon after with a 6-2, 6-0 win of her own at the No. 3 position.

Kaur then sealed the doubleheader sweep for New Mexico State with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of WNMU's Ashley Newell at No. 1 singles.

Eli Arnaudova came in at No. 5 singles for the first time this season and picked up the win, 6-3, 6-1, while Brandt rounded this out with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles.

Gabrielle Joyce won by default at No. 6 singles with the Mustangs down a player due to injury.
