EL PASO, Texas – The NM State women's tennis team dropped the Battle of I-10 to UTEP, 4-1, on Friday afternoon at the El Paso Tennis Club.

The Aggies went up first in doubles action when
Ashvarya Shrivastav and
Rimpledeep Kaur dominated Lois Wagenvoort and Matilda Tench 6-0 at the No. 2 slot.
However, UTEP answered with back-to-back wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 doubles slots. After the Miners picked tied things on court No. 3,
Erika Castillo Lopez and
Gabrielle Joyce battled back-and-forth before falling 7-5 at the top doubles position to give UTEP the point.

Castillo Lopez tied things up at one apiece when Duda Santos retired with Castillo Lopez on top 4-1 at No. 3 singles. UTEP regained its lead soon after when Tench got the best of
Eli Arnaudova 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.

Mia Brandt fought off Daphne Visscher as long as she could, but fell 6-1, 6-2 on court No. 4. UTEP clinched the match at No. 1 singles after Shrivastav dropped a tough match to Vivienne Kulicke 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

With the match decided, No. 2 and No. 6 singles were halted with the Aggies leading in both matches.

New Mexico State will now regroup and get ready for senior day on Sunday, April 17, at 10 a.m. (MT) against Rio Grande Rival, New Mexico.
