@NMStateWSOC Off to Face Lobos Before Hosting Wolfpack

The NM State women’s soccer team faces Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico before returning home to host Nevada on Sunday, Sept. 18.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Fresh off their second shutout of the season, the New Mexico State women's soccer team looks to build on that momentum as they get set to square off against Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, before returning home to host Nevada at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18.
 
Friday's contest in Albuquerque will also be broadcast on the Mountain West Network. Sunday will be "Bark at the Park" day with Aggie fans having the option of bringing their well-behaved furry friends to the match against the Wolfpack. All dogs MUST be on a leash.
  QUICK HITS
  • The 3-0 win over Idaho State was the second shutout of the season, the first time NM State had two shutouts in a season since the 2013.
  • Sophomore keeper Ashley Martin also notched her second shutout of the season and third-career shutout. Her three shutouts is ties her for fourth all-time with Katie Graul (2009) while her two shutouts this season is three shy of passing the single-season leader, Erin Wosick (2011).
  • Freshmen Jess McDow and Valerie Maestas made their first-career starts against Weber State and Idaho State last weekend.
  • Sophomore Aileen Galicia picked up her first-career hat-trick last Sunday against Idaho State. Her hat trick was also the first one of the season in the Western Athletic Conference.
  • Galicia has now scored five of the seven goals the Aggies have scored so far this season while her five scores this season ties her season total from last year with 11 matches remaining in the regular-season.
  • The NM State line-up against Weber State was the fifth different line-up the Aggies have rolled out this season.
  • Friday's match in Albuquerque will be a homecoming for nine Aggie players as NM State squares off against rival New Mexico.

GALICIA TABBED OFFENSIVE POW
  • After putting up a natural hat trick against Idaho State on the road, sophomore Aileen Galicia was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week.
  • The honor was the first for any NM State player this season and the first since Rian Nials was named defensive player of the week on Sept. 28 last season.
  • Galicia's hat trick was just the second in program history behind Yolanda McMillion's hat trick back on Aug. 29, 2010, against Prairie View A&M.
  • The six points for the Indio, Calif., native was the most in a game since 2014 when Jennae Cambra tallied six points of her own on two goals and two assists.

GLANCE AT THE AGGIES
  • Aileen Galicia leads all Aggies with 10 points (5g) and a .579 shots on goal percentage, including two game-winning goals.
  • Her five goals lead the WAC and ranks her 40th in the nation as of Sept. 13.
  • Audriana Chavez and Holly Abdelkader are the other two players with goals registered.
  • On the assists column, Valerie Maestas, Rebecca Mazzie and Samantha Afonso each have one on the year.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Martin has not given up a goal in 181:53 minutes of action.
  • Martin's 43 saves this season leads the conference as well and is 30th amongst keepers in the nation.
  • Head coach Freddy Delgado is now 12-38-0 (.240) all-time at NM State, and is four wins shy of tying Michael Needham (16) for the second-most wins as a head coach and just six shy of taking the lead over Blair Quin (17).

BATTLE OF I-25 RESUMES
  • NM State trails the all-time series against Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico 6-0.
  • The Aggies fell last year 1-0 to the Lobos in the 47th minute on a shot inside the box from Madisyn Olguin.
  • The Lobos head into Friday's contest 3-2-2 as they play their home-opener against NM State.
  • New Mexico has won three of its last five matches and has taken a 0-0 draw in the other two matches.
  • NM State and UNM played a pair of similar opponents with New Mexico downing Idaho State 4-3 and tied Northern Arizona 0-0. The Aggies recently defeated the Bengals 3-0 and fell to NAU 1-0.
  • As a team, UNM has registered 12 goals on 103 shots for a .117 shooting-percentage.
  • New Mexico is led by senior Maddie Irwin's nine points (4g, 1a) while Claire Lynch (2g) and Katie Hinman (1g, 2a) check in with four points each.
  • Former Aggie Tayler Hammack, who now plays for UNM, has played in all seven matches for the Lobos and has given up nine goals in 654:15 minutes of action with 32 saves for a .740 saves percentage.

HUNTING THE WOLFPACK
  • New Mexico State is 1-3 all-time against Nevada with its last match-up coming on Oct. 9, 2011, a 2-1 win in extra time at home for the Aggies before Nevada moved to the Mountain West Conference.
  • The Wolfpack had won two-straight, both shutouts, before falling to Portland State this past Sunday.
  • Nevada is 1-1 when playing on the road, falling to Hawaii 2-1 followed by a 2-0 win over Sacramento State.
  • Angel Meriwether leads the Wolfpack with four points (2g) while Morgan Beye (1g) and Rylee Peterson (1g) each have 2 points.
  • Hannah Wuensche and Bonnie Ford paces Nevada with one assist each.
  • Nevada has had trouble finding the back of the net, posting a .091 shooting percentage as a team and .455 shots on goal percentage.
  • Meriwether leads the team with six total shots while Gaby Caporicci has taken five. Everyone else on the team has taken four shots or less on the year.

LAST TIME OUT
  • After giving up a pair of goals in the first five minutes against Weber State, the Aggies have looked like a completely different team. NM State has not given up a goal in 172:39 minutes.
  • Audriana Chavez scored the lone goal for NM State in its 2-1 loss to the Wildcats in the 58th minute on a pass in traffic from Samantha Afonso.
  • In the next game, Aileen Galicia put on a scoring clinic to give the Aggies a great start to the game as she fired in a natural hat-trick in just 51 minutes of action.
  • Keeper Ashley Martin had eight shots come at her on goal and denied Idaho State all eight times to earn her second shutout of the season.

LOOKING AHEAD
  • The Aggies stay true to the road warriors mantra as they head to Houston, Texas, to battle the Cougars of Houston on Sept. 23 at 6 p.m.
  • Three days later, NM State entertains Arizona Christian at 1 p.m. on Sept. 26 to complete its non-conference schedule.
  • Conference play then begins for New Mexico State on Oct. 7 when it hosts Chicago State at noon.
