LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's swimming and diving teams will have a split squad competing this weekend as the swimmers host Northern Arizona for a two-day dual meet that will take place on Friday, Nov. 17th, through Saturday, Nov. 18th.
"This will be a unique and interesting format than your typical dual meet and I'm excited to see how it will go," head coach
Rick Pratt said. "We've been pushing the envelope in terms of how fast we can train over the past two months. We're hoping this meet will give them a chance to allow that work to pay off. NAU has improved from last year and has some great freestylers and depth in their line-up. They're really going to challenge us in many areas and our team is going to have to win races to come out on top. We missed a lot of close opportunities at Idaho and hopefully we can make up for that in this setting."
Friday's 10:30 a.m. session will begin with the mile, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and conclude with the 400 free relay. The action will continue at 4:30 p.m. with the 400 medley relay, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and the 200 free relay. Saturday's events will start at 11:00 a.m. with the 200 medley relay, followed by the 500 free, 100 fly, 200 IM, 50 free and 800 free relay.
The NM State divers, led by coach
Miranda King, travel to Flagstaff, Ariz., for the Northern Arizona Diving Invite that will begin on Friday, Nov. 17th, and run through Sunday, Nov. 19th.
"The NAU Diving Invite is always a great meet," King said. "There is a high level of competition as Cal Berkeley, Arizona State and University of Nevada are just a few schools that will be attending. NAU and Grand Canyon will both be there as well, which will give us a hint of what the WAC Championships will look like in February with those two schools as well as the other schools we have competed against so far. We are coming off a great week in Idaho where MacKinna (Hauff) broke the school record and we had a few season best scores. The divers are leaps and bounds ahead of where they were at this point last year and this meet will further prove how much they have improved."
The one-meter diving event will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and closes the day with the top-12 divers competing in the finals. The three-meter dive competition will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the top-12 divers competing in the finals that will begin at 1:30 p.m. The platform event begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday to close out the event.
