SACRAMENTO – The New Mexico State men's tennis team finished in fifth-place at the Golden State Invitational hosted by Sacramento State and UC Davis with a 4-2 win over Nevada on Saturday.

New Mexico State didn't waste any time to start the match and took the doubles point after its No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams finished within minutes of one another, 6-4.

With a 1-0 lead,
Christofer Goncalves gave the Aggies a 2-0 lead over the Wolfpack with 6-3, 6-1 victory over Julien Evrard at Singles No. 1. Nevada cut the Aggie lead in half when
Mauri Benitez was bested by Peter O'Donovan on court No. 6 – 6-1, 6-2 before
Enrique Asmar was beaten at No. 5 singles 7-6, 6-1.

Stijn de Haan worked his way to a 7-5 win in the first set before settling down to take the match 7-5, 6-4.
Sergi Espias put the finishing touches on for NM State when he fought off Mile Cilcic for the 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory while clinching the match as well.

NM State now begins conference play as it heads to Phoenix (March 24-25) for a pair of matches against Grand Canyon and Chicago State.                                                                                                   Â
