LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State diver
Sheridan Decker qualified for NCAA Diving Zones for the first time in her collegiate career following Saturday's meet against CSU-Pueblo at the NM State Swimming and Diving Complex. The meet saw the Aggies prevail over the ThunderWolves, 146-64.
Decker posted a final score of 285.40 in the three-meter diving category, which qualified her for the prestigious event. Teammate
Raina Brommer placed second with a score of 279.
"Today was a lot of fun and a great chance to celebrate our seniors who have sacrificed so much for our team," said head coach
Rick Pratt. "We were able to see some different things from individuals today, mixing up our typical line-up and that definitely made things interesting. We're in a good place and just need to keep getting faster as we head towards WAC."
Senior
Picabo Bender notched first-place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:15.39. CSU-Pueblo's Hannah Plummer (6:31.23) and Tracey Williams (6:46.51) rounded out the class in second and third-place, respectively.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Aggie
Katherine Harston clocked a time of 1:59.42 to finish in first. Lilly Araujo came in second-place with a time of 2:00.00, followed by
Reagan Nentwich with a time of 2:04.93.
New Mexico State's
Aimee Hatfield placed first in the 50-yard freestyle class when she recorded a time of 25.03.
Grace Laporte finished second with a time of 25.53, while teammate
Hanna McGowan came in third after she logged a time of 25.69.
Johanna Pettersson gave the Aggies another first-place nod when she posted a time of 2:13.34 in the 200-yard IM.
Ashley Reynolds (2:15.43) and
Olivia Bender (2:19.70) finished second and third, respectively.
In the one-meter diving category, Brommer claimed the top spot when she posted a score of 294.95. Decker finished in second-place with a score of 262, followed by Lilia De Oliveira-Pelaez with a score of 221.55.
NM State's
Rachel Langone earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.73. CSU-Pueblo's Arianna Rohde (1:00.98) and Taylor Wertz (1:07.59) nabbed second and third-place, respectively.
Barbora Krizanova and
Hanna McGowan tied for first-place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.96. Phoebe Pontious of CSU-Pueblo rounded out the top-three with a time of 56.45.
Representing the Aggies in first-place at the conclusion of the 100-yard backstroke was
Lanie McAlpin with a time of 59.96. ThunderWolves Rohde finished second with a time of 1:03.76, while teammate Jade Irick placed third with a time of 1:05.71.
In the 100-yard breaststroke,
Kayla Gerhart raced to a final time of 1:10.80 to give the Aggies a first-place finish. Kate Miller (1:13.33) and Leila Zijadic (1:20.02) finished second and third, respectively, for CSU-Pueblo.
The Aggies closed out the meet with the 200-yard freestyle when
Ruby Rodriguez,
Sina Wegel, Harston and McGowan posted a time of 1:41.66. CSU-Pueblo's Deanna Harrison, Bristyn, Abbey Cira and Taylor Wertz recorded a time of 2:00.97.
NM State gets a week-long break from competition before hitting the road to take on I-25 rival, New Mexico, on Jan. 27. Events are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. MT.
