PROVO, Utah – The New Mexico State women's cross country team took on top competition at the NCAA Mountain Regional, hosted by BYU, on Friday. The squad took home 16th in the 6k race from the East Bay Golf Course in Provo, Utah.
"We had a really good team race today. The women did a really good job keeping pace, not getting out too hard, and working their way up through the field," assistant coach
Joseph Rath said "A few of runners had some PR's, which was nice after some of them felt like they didn't run their best race at the conference meet. Jess [Dominguez] in particular had a huge bounce back after WAC."
Jess Dominguez crossed the finish line first for the NM State squad, placing 55
th with a personal best time of 21:20.7.
Elana Kresl came in second for the Aggies and 82
nd overall posting a time of 21:49.7.
Julia Yescas followed closely behind the junior for 84
th overall, finishing with a new personal record time of 21:52.0. Rounding out the top-five for the Aggies were
Corinne Hanson (21:58.5) and
Leah Salazar (22:04.6), finishing 91
st and 96
th, respectively.
"Overall, we had a really good day moving through the field," Rath said. "We finished the season on a strong note. The team now goes into the offseason and gets ready for the indoor season."
