RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The New Mexico State men's golf team concluded a shortened day one of tournament play due to darkness at the Pro Compression Invitational on Monday. After completing the first round, the Aggies have an unofficial score of 308 (+20) that puts the team in fifth place out of 10 teams heading into the final day.
Individual play for NM State was led by
Niall Powell who fired a 76 (+4) to sit in a tie for 21
st through 18 holes. A pair of Aggies –
Garrison Smith and
Tadhg Campbell – each shot a 77 (+ 5) to tie for 30th to follow Powell. Smith also led the Aggie squad with four birdies in round one.
Ryo Harada had the fourth highest score among the NM State starting lineup shooting a 78 (+6) to tie for 40
th. Then
Mike McGilton rounded out the Aggie starters in a tie for 57
th at 82 (+10).
Tristin Goodwin, who is competing as an individual, fired a 76 (+4) and sits in a tie for 21
st.
At the end of day one, No. 17 California is atop the team leaderboard with a score of 283 (-5), followed by Long Beach State in second at 290 (+2) and Loyola Marymount completes the top-three with a team total of 297 (+9).
