RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The New Mexico State men's golf team wrapped up play at the two-day, three-round Pro Compression Invitational on Tuesday at the Farms Golf Club. At the end of 54-hole play, the Aggies shot a 308-302-299—909 (+45) to finish in fifth place out of 10 teams in the event.
Team play for NM State was led by
Tadhg Campbell who improved each round firing a 77-74-73—224 (+8) to finish in a tie for 18
th.
Ryo Harada followed behind in a tie for 32
nd with improved scores every 18 holes shooting a 78-76-74—228 (+12).
Niall Powell finished just four strokes behind Harada at 76-83-73—232 (+16) to tie for 42
nd.
Garrison Smith, who led the Aggies with 10 birdies in the tournament, posted a scorecard of 77-76-82—235 (+19) that put the golfer in a tie for 45
th.
Mike McGilton rounded out the Aggie starters at 82-76-79—237 (+21) to finish in 49
th.
Tristin Goodwin, who competed as an individual, fired a 76-81-79—236 (+20) to tie for 47
th.
At the end of the Pro Compression Invite, the leaderboard saw No. 17 California take home the team title with the only team total under-par at 843 (-21), followed by Loyola Marymount in second at 879 (+15) and Long Beach State completed the top-three with a team total of 884 (+20) at tournament's end.
The New Mexico State men's golf team now gets set to travel to Houston, Texas for the All-America Intercollegiate taking place from Feb. 17-19.
