HOUSTON – The New Mexico State swimming and diving team wrapped up its first day at the Western Athletic Conference championships from the CRWC Natatorium. NM State sits in the third place with 89 points behind Northern Arizona and Idaho.

"Tonight was a solid start and we got some nervous energy out of the way," said head coach
Rick Pratt. "
Raina Brommer was incredible and it was inspirational to see her attack her dives with such confidence. We're only three events in and have a lot to be excited about moving forward."

The Aggies started the day with
Hanna McGowan,
Reagan Nentwich,
Barbora Krizanova and
Neza Kocijan competing in the 200 Medley relay. They finished in third place with a time of 1:42.13. Then, NM State contested the 800 Free relay as the squad of
Grace Laporte,
Anabel Ivanov, Oliva Airam-Aun and
Sina Wegel placing fifth at 7:31.99.

New Mexico State's divers,
MacKinna Hauff and Brommer, took part in the 3m dive during day one of the WAC Championships. After the preliminary round, Brommer (261.95) sat in sixth place with Hauff (250.80). In the final Hauff posted a 270.20 for seventh place while Brommer recorded a 287.60 to earn a second-place finish.

NM State is back in action from the WAC Championships tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 28, starting at approximately 9:30 a.m. (MT) with finals for that day's events beginning at approximately 5:10 p.m. Tomorrow's preliminary round is set to stream live on
Facebook live with the final rounds available via the
WAC Digital Network.
