LAREDO, Texas – The New Mexico State men's golf team wrapped up the first day of play at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas at the Laredo Country Club. Through the first two rounds, the Aggies have posted a team score of 291-285--576 (E) and sit in 12
th place.
Individual play for the Aggies has been led by top-20 golfer
Tadhg Campbell who fired a consistent 70-70—140 (-4) and is tied for 11
th place. The senior also leads NM State with 10 birdies after 36 holes and is tied for the lead among the tournament field with a 2.75 (-2) par-3 scoring.
Mike McGilton followed with a 72-71—143 (-1) scorecard to sit in a tie for 30
th.
The rest of the Aggie starting lineup features
Ryo Harada,
Garrison Smith and
Niall Powell all tied for 69
th at 149 (+5). Harada currently leads the squad with 24 holes for par and Powell is tied for the tournament lead in par-5 scoring at 4.13 (-7).
Cameron Gambini, competing as an individual is tied for 61
st at 147 (+3). Among the Aggie golfers, Gambini has also fired the only eagle during the tournament.
Heading into the final round of play, the team leaderboard is led by No. 20 Arkansas State with a team total of 545 (-31), followed by UT Rio Grande Valley in second at 556 (-20), while Sam Houston State and host Houston round out the top-three at 558 (-18).
