LUBBOCK, Texas – The New Mexico State track and field squad completed the Fearless Champion Open at Fuller Track and Field on Saturday.
Asjah Wallace set a new program record for the 100m hurdles during the second day of the meet.
Wallace ran 13.72 in the 100m hurdles to finish second in the event and set a new program record.
Keosha Sanders ran 11.65 in the 100m, finishing in fifth and ranking first in the conference.
Lashira Tremble followed with a ninth place finish when she ran 11.94. In the 200m, Tremble finished in eighth when she clocked in at 24.55.
In the 3,000m steeple chase,
Elana Kresl took home the gold when she ran 11:08.06 in the event. Teammate
Corinne Hanson followed closely behind in second with a time of 11:25.51.
In the 400m,
Takiyah Johnson ran 56.99 to take third in the event.
Lanie Whelpley followed closely behind the freshman in fourth when she ran 57.36.
Moselle De Los Santos came in eighth, clocking in at 58.68.
Wallace clocked in at 1:01.12 in the 400m hurdles to take third place and rank second at NM State.
Elizabeth Mendoza took eighth when she ran 1:03.90 in the event.
Michaela Romero was the top finisher for NM State in the 5,000m, clocking in at 19:16.92 for fourth.
Regina Marquez (19:31.64) and
Ocean Stevens (19:37.97) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
The 4x100m relay team of Sanders, Tremble, Wallace and Whelpley ran 46.89 to place sixth in the event.
For the field events,
Bristol O'Connor threw 43.14m (141-6) in the discus on her first attempt to claim ninth in the event.
Yemisi Oroyinyin took sixth in the shot put when she threw 14.23m (46-8.25).
Sam Ponds claimed eighth with a mark of 13.37m (43-10.5)
Telecia Briscoe took home ninth in the long jump with a mark of 5.43m (17-9.75).
Keyarha Wilson finished in third when she jumped 1.66m (5-5.25) in the high jump.
The team heads back to the Lone Star State for the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Classic. Both meets are set to begin on Thursday, March 20.
