KERRVILLE, Texas – The New Mexico State men's golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of play at The Big Texan on Monday at Comanche Trace golf club. Through 36 holes of action, the Aggies have posted a team score of 278-274—552 (-24) and sit in second place out of 11 teams.
NM State's play has been led by the tournament's best player,
Tadhg Campbell, who has carded a 66-67—133 (-11) and sits atop the individual leaderboard.
Mike McGilton follows two strokes behind in a tie for second at 69-66—135 (-9). Campbell and McGilton also recorded the only two eagles for the Aggies on day one. Another top-5 golfer for the Crimson & White was
Cameron Gambini who is tied for fifth after firing a 66-70—136 (-8). Gambini also leads the team and is second among the tournament field with 12 birdies.
Rounding out the Aggies starting lineup is
Ryo Harada and
Davis Chung who are tied for 37
th after each shot a 148 (+4). Then leading the individual golfers is NM State's
Garrison Smith with a day one score of 76-67—143 (-1) to sit in a tie for 20
th.
Niall Powell, also competing as an individual, shot a 67-81—148 (+4) and is tied for 37
th.
At the end of day one, the tournament's team leaderboard is led by Texas State who posted a team score of 551 (-25), followed by NM State in second at 552 (-24), while Odessa College and Abilene Christian complete the top-three with a score of 561 (-15).
The completion of The Big Texan features the New Mexico State men's golf team entering the final round with a 7:30 a.m. MT shotgun start on Tuesday, March 26, at Comanche Trace.
