LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Western Athletic Conference Regular-Season title will be on the line this weekend when the New Mexico State men's tennis team heads to the Pacific Northwest this weekend for a pair of matches. Time for both matches are still TBA.
Â
With a 13-8 overall record and 3-0 mark in WAC play, the winner on Friday, April 12, between the Aggies and Grand Canyon will give that team at least a share of the regular-season title. The Lopes enter the weekend 15-6 overall on the year and also 3-0 in conference play. GCU recently lost 4-1 to Arizona State on the road this past Sunday. NM State is 5-2 on the year in neutral site matches while GCU sits at 5-1.
Â
The last time the two met up, GCU got the best of NM State 4-0 in the final match of the Golden State Invitational. That match, however, was just played in singles format due to weather and travel for teams participating.
Â
Seattle U, who enter the weekend 4-9 overall and 0-2 in league play, will be NM State's final road block before heading to the WAC Tournament. The Redhawks have had some time to recoup and rest, not having played a match since going 0-2 in Las Cruces in the first WAC Pod of matches.
Â
NM State will get a week off to rest up and prep for the conference tournament before heading to Brownsville, Texas, April 26-27.
