CHICAGO – The New Mexico State women's tennis team faltered in its final conference match of the year and fell to host Chicago State 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club.

NM State's (11-8, 3-2 WAC) No. 3 doubles team of
Chloe Gavino and
Rebecca Keijzerwaard gave NM State an early lead when they won 6-0. The Cougars knotted things up shortly after with a close 7-5 win on court No. 2 over
Lindsay Harlas and
Yadira Rubio before claiming the doubles point with a  7-6 victory on court No. 1.

Chicago State (8-10, 2-3 WAC) extended NM State's deficit to 2-0 in singles action when Rubio got bested 7-5, 6-1 on court No. 5. The Aggies continued to struggle with Harlas going on 6-3, 6-2 on court No. 2 before Chicago State clinched the match on a 6-4, 7-5 win over
Harsha Challa at the No. 3 slot.

Gavino, who moved up to the No. 4 slot for Saturday's match, won her first set but wasn't able to fend off Diana Borodina before falling 5-7, 6-1, 6-0.
Gavi Kalaga gave NM State its lone point when she battled back to take down Lizi Morgoshia 4-6, 6-0, 7-5 on court No. 6 before Keijzerwaard fell at the top singles position 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

New Mexico State will look to regroup back home this Tuesday, April 9, as it entertains NMMI in a 2 p.m. doubleheader with the men's team on senior day.
