@NMStateWTEN Sends Seniors Off on High Note

The NM State women’s tennis team sent its seniors off on a high note Tuesday with a sweep of NMMI.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team sent its seniors off the right way on Tuesday, sweeping NMMI in front of its home-crowd 7-0.

The Aggies got off to a quick start due to the Broncos not having enough players to field three doubles teams and won on court No. 3 by default. With an early 1-0 lead, the senior duo of Lindsay Harlas and Yadira Rubio clinched the point with a 6-0 victory on court No. 2 while NM State also took a 6-2 victory at the top position.

Before the start of singles action, the program honored Harlas and Rubio on court No. 1 with athletic staff, family, friends and fans in attendance.
New Mexico State (12-8) started off with a 2-0 lead in singles action with NMMI playing with only five players as Gavi Kalaga took the default win on court No .6. Rubio was the first to finish for the Aggies, toppling Juliet Quintero 6-0, 6-0 on court No. 5.

Harsha Challa then clinched the match for NM State with an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory against Venus Ubiebi at the third singles position. Neus Torregrosa added a 6-2, 6-1 win on court No. 4 shortly thereafter before Harlas and Rebecca Keijzerwaard won on courts No. 2 and No. 1, respectively.

The Aggies will now turn their focus towards their rivals this weekend. NM State will first head to #Aggiequerque for a 10 a.m. (MT) battle against Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico on Saturday, April 12, before returning to the Borderlands for a 2 p.m. match against Battle of I-10 rival UTEP on Saturday, April 13, before heading off to the WAC Tournament.
