LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men's tennis team wrapped up its first week of action for the fall on Sunday at home playing host to the Aggie Invitational.

The doubles tandem of
Louis Menard and
Jordy Visser went back-and-forth with Arizona's pair of Stewart Block and Hiroki Sakagawa but ultimately fell in the 6-4 in the finals. Meanwhile in the third-place match,
Martin Simecek and
Luis Flores bested NMMI's team 6-3. In addition,
Nicolas Buitrago and
Timothee Curnier captured the consolation title with a 6-4 victory over Abilene Christian's Savan Chhabra and Cole Stokes.

With two Aggies scheduled to face off in the championship match of the Crimson flight, head coach
Carlos Vargas opted save his players for next weekend's tournament in Tucson. In the third-place match of the white singles flight,
Sebastian Herrera fended off a testy opponent in Arizona's Jared Horwood for the 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 win.

NM State won't get much rest in before it has to drive west on I-10 this Thursday to play in the Arizona Invitational (Sept. 20-22) at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
