Aggies Tee Off at Hobble Creek Fall Classic to Open Season

NM State women's golf opens the 2019-20 campaign Monday in Springville, Utah.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State women's golf team begins the 2019-20 season with the Hobble Creek Fall Classic on Monday, Sept. 9, and Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville, Utah.
 
Seventeen teams, including the Aggies, and 16 individuals are slated to compete in the season-opening event, which is hosted by Utah Valley. The first and second rounds of the two-day, 54-hole tournament will both occur Monday, with the field teeing off at 7:30 a.m. (MT). Tuesday's final round begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (MT).
 
THE FIELD
Host institution Utah Valley welcomes NM State in addition to Boise State, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Califor­nia Baptist, Hawaii, Incarnate Word, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sam Houston State, Santa Clara, Southern Utah, UT Rio Grande Valley, Weber State, Wyoming. 16 individuals will also participate in the event.
 
Tulsa, the reigning champion, is not competing in this year's tournament. The Golden Hurricane (877, +25) won the 2018 event, finishing ahead of Utah Valley (879, +27), Sam Houston State (890, +38) and Southern Utah (891, +39).
 
NM State did not participate in last season's tournament, but won the event in 2017, coming in at 866 (+14) to claim the title. The Aggies were led by then-sophomore Pun Chanachai, who finished as the top individual after shooting a nine-under-par 204.

The Aggies' lineup for this year's tournament includes Chanachai, sophomore Amelia McKee, senior Dominique Galloway, freshman Alex Quihuis and sophomore Chantal Dueringer.
 
THE AGGIES
NM State enters the 2019-20 season on the heels of yet another successful campaign. The Aggies won their fifth Western Athletic Conference Championship in six years and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
 
Galloway was the top individual at the WAC Championship, finishing in first place at one-over-par 214. She fired a two-under-par 69 in the first round of the tournament en route to claiming the title.

Galloway was last season's WAC Player of the Year. Head coach Danny Bowen was named Coach of the Year, and Chanachai earned First Team All-WAC honors.
